Week 2, but NOT 2 Weak

The title sums it up fairly well.

Considering it was my first FULL week of school, it was a very exhausting week. However, I tightened my belt and lowered my shoulder to have a great week. I feel that every second this week I learned something new. But one thing really stood out to me.....

I learned that some students just need the right person to motivate them when no one else will. I have some students that other teachers would have given up on, but the student in my class is doing very well in. I think most of it has to do with the subject matter, but I can also tell that it is more than that. You can see it in the smile or the way they look at you when walking down the hall. Or by how they call you over to them during lunch so they can ask you how your day is going.

I believe that teaching is a great opportunity to affect many lives and influence students in the right direction. When you get to hear about the background of some of the students, you begin to wonder how they may feel inside. Does coming to school bring joy to their life for the short amount of time they are here? What will happen when they finish school? Will they follow in the same foot steps or move forward and persevere through life. I know that it is a HUGE question, but it is one that I want to influence and shape as an educator. Not every child comes from a happy background, but every child deserves the chance to change where they came from for the better.

  1. Todd,
With your weekly reflections, we really need more details on teaching and learning episodes that occur in each period on each day!

    Keep working!

  2. Todd,
I agree with Dr. Foster's comment. I need to see what is happening in the classroom/laboratory through the blog. I look forward to talking through this, and other items, during my visit on Wednesday... weather permitting!!
